Unless it turns out to be a prequel manga set before Eila was part of the 501.

I have a feeling this will be pre-501st. If it wasn't, it'd be hard to keep the focus on Eila, since the rest of the 501st cast would beg for lots of screen time too.

Suomus' Fighter Squadron 24 has a most intriguing existing and totally unused character draft so I hope it's Eila in her pre-501 days. Also possible Misfits appearances. I just hope they explore other sides of Eila than the hetare and the unkillable Mary Sue Haxx.

Hahaha! But why?
It's the only official look at Eila's past we have.

I really hope the new manga expands Eila's time in LeLv 24, and maybe her childhood with Aurora. Would be sad if it was just about her early days in the 501st.

Because it 1) cheapens Eila incredibly by defining her only in relation to Sanya, and 2) prevents anyone from writing a better story of how Eila and Sanya met the first time. If the best they could do is "I saw her through a window once and she immediately became my PURPOSE IN LIFE", they should not have written anything at all. That's just horrible.

Eila is a strong enough character to stand on her own, have character of her own, goals of her own, entirely unrelated to Sanya.

I seriously disagree with Twilight Trio's representation of Eila as just stumbling through life without an aim before Sanya gave her a purpose to live. That doesn't leave room for the True Eila which we see in the rare times she does something for herself - the titty-grabbing, teasing villain with a devil's grin.

Eila had a full life before Sanya, back in Suomus. She must have. Nipa and Hanna wouldn't have such fond memories of her otherwise.

Twilight Trio. One of the SW one-shot "comics ala carte". By Ningen. It should be in the mangafoxlite official comics ala carte package.

>2)
It could change. Wouldn't be the first retcon in SW history.

>Eila is a strong enough character to stand on her own, have character of her own, goals of her own, entirely unrelated to Sanya.
>Eila is a stand to Sanya.
Reminded me of this. Sorry, I couldn't resist!

>>6359
Well, Twilight Trio just depicts how Eila views her past life after having been in the 501st with Sanya for quite some time.
I think it certainly leaves room for the "True" Eila.
>> No. 6367 ID: 1ba170
>>6364
>But so does all other SW media with Eila...

No. Normally she's obsessed (and not even that all the time - in the anime she can shut up about Sanya when Sanya's not around). This is on a different level. This is her outright saying that she had _no purpose in her life_ before she met Sanya. Like, defending Suomus, which logically should be plenty of purpose, meant nothing to her at all. Nothing meant anything to her. But as soon as she saw a glimpse of Sanya, Sanya became her reason to live.

Do you realize how bad that makes her look? This is something someone who HATES Eila would write.

The only thing that comes close to that kind of shit is that drama CD where each character is asked a set of questions and Eila talks about Sanya in every single one of her answers. And that was just a bad joke, not a serious moment. This is garbage.

So sorry Eila/SW didn't turn out the way you wanted. You sound like an obsessive, no, downright delusional fanboy. It's not that bad, so please try to calm your pants.

Eila was just a kid when she was drafted to the war, of course she'd feel a little lost about the whole thing. Then she experienced her first crush / love at first sight. Things like that do happen, only most teenage crushes don't work out nearly as well as eilanya does. And it's a pretty fitting way to explain the hetare eila.

I'm pretty sure we'll see plenty of serious Eila in the new manga. They wouldn't make a whole manga out of the already overused hetare gag, right? ...right?

>You sound like an obsessive, no, downright delusional fanboy.

And you sound like an apologist making excuses for a shitty comic.

It's a war of annihilation where the lives of entire human race are at stake. If you don't think that's important, but the random strumpet you just saw from a distance is, you are a horrible person thinking with your genitals, no excuses allowed. And I refuse to think of Eila as being so low and vile as to think of Sanya as more important than Suomus, let alone the entire world. Twilight Trio can lick my taint.

>I'm pretty sure we'll see plenty of serious Eila in the new manga. They wouldn't make a whole manga out of the already overused hetare gag, right? ...right?

The people in control of the franchise don't have a great track record on figuring out how to best use it. See: the movie.

Still, I remain cautiously optimistic for this new manga, but it's more a "this is their chance to redeem themselves" kind of optimism, not "this will likely be great" kind.

Well, of course. Defending something makes one an apologist by definition.
And you sound extremely mad over something relatively trivial in your favorite fiction, hell-bent on your interpretation - an obsessive fanboy.

Strike Witches rarely paints the second neuroi war as the grimdark event it realistically would be. Misfits also makes a nice point of how some of the witches don't even realize the seriousness of the what they're doing.

I think it's only rational to assume that the manga will be about Eila's life in Suomus, considering the only information we have about it.

Pic related - Eila flying with Nipa, snowy land in the background. They're almost certainly flying in Suomus' skies.
>主役は”ダイヤのエース”エイラ!!
I don't think Eila's "Ace of Diamonds" nickname was ever used during her days in the 501st JFW.

Let's hope for the best and not wallow in negative emotions.

>And you sound extremely mad over something relatively trivial in your favorite fiction,
Relatively trivial? You said yourself that this is "the only official look at Eila's past we have". That is not trivial. Not unless you think Eila's whole character is trivial.

>hell-bent on your interpretation
What is there to interpret? It's stated plain on the page. Eila says she drifted aimlessly through life until she met Sanya, and Sanya instantly became her reason to live and fight. There is no wiggle room there. You have to understand that this makes Eila look like total shit, right? If there was an alternate interpretation of this that made Eila look good somehow, I'd likely latch onto it, but there is none.

I'm not "interpreting" anything. I'm calling this story shit and rejecting it forever.

>an obsessive fanboy.
You have resorted to name-calling twice now. Just pointing that out.
>> No. 6373 ID: f254bf
I think Sanya being a sole reason for Eila to fight is so shallow, but hey.

Strike Witches as a whole is already shallow to begin with or perhaps that's what happens when their universe is all about pantsless girls flying around and males having no real function other than helping to make babies.

Witches are like, fighting neuroi is our hobby, our goal in life is to make out with fellow girls..

Nevertheless, I'm still following this whole Strike Witches thing.

That's sadly true. We probably shouldn't think about this at such depth.

Yes. A few pages of Eila's thoughts in one manga doesn't define/ruin her whole character.

IT'S NOT A FUCKING INTERPRETATION YOU STUPID FUCK. And for the record, "stupid fuck" is not an insult either, it's just a "fair description" that "each of your posts reinforces". There is no interpretation at work here you goddamn piece of shit (also a fair description enforced by each of your shitty posts).

Partially because it's from the official comics ala carte, which also contain material that won't fit into any SW canon and/or is just plain silly. I would say it's not the most important character-defining material.

>I don't see a single line to indicate that he was "denying" anything.

Pot, kettle, black, etc.

>you're belittling the canonicity status of Twilight Trio while at the same time calling me out for not accepting it's canon. Which is it? You can't have it both ways.
There is no contradiction here. Its somewhat questionable canonicity is all the more reason to not think about it too seriously and not be so angry about it. Check out the aforementioned Wasu's gag comics and you'll understand what I mean about the questionable canonicity. That stuff has no place in any serious SW canon, yet it's in the official comics ala carte. There are probably other examples, but Wasu always crosses my mind first. I'm just trying to help you calm down here. I don't think TTT is good either, but I'm trying to be rational about it.

>I am looking at directly what the comic in question EXPLICITLY SAYS
But most of the stuff you claim isn't explicitly said in the comic. Let's see...

>"became my PURPOSE IN LIFE"
>Sanya became her reason to live.
>Sanya instantly became her reason to live
Reason to live? Nowhere in the comic.
"That is my reason to fight"
Literally to fight/battle the war, not metaphorically "fight on" with life, "ファイト" or anything like that. Prior to meeting Sanya, her reason for fighting was simply the Neuroi - protecting her homeland and defending mankind against Neuroi.

>Like, defending Suomus, which logically should be plenty of purpose, meant nothing to her at all.
>Nothing meant anything to her.
...
"Of course, I wanted to protect my homeland"
"And of course I felt I had a duty as a witch to protect mankind from the Neuroi invasion"
I think you're reading a little bit too deep between the lines here to find the exact opposite meaning in her words.

>saw her through a window once and she immediately became
Nope.
"After that day, we slowly got to know each other better and better"
"And my once small and fragile reason soon developed into true determination"
I wish Twilight Trio had elaborated on this development (among many other things) instead of skipping it with one panel and a few words. Well, you can't fit miracles into 10 pages of manga.

>This is her outright saying that she had _no purpose in her life_ before she met Sanya.
She is not outright saying/thinking that. You're exaggerating heavily. Claiming it was implied would be more reasonable, but that would still be your interpretation.

>Feel free to share
Uh? But we've been comparing interpretations all the way. Let me copypaste a small bit at random, for example's sake.
Your earlier interpretation of, I would assume, Eila's thoughts on pages 3-4 or so:
>Like, defending Suomus, which logically should be plenty of purpose, meant nothing to her at all. Nothing meant anything to her.
Followed by my interpretation of Eila's thought on pages 3-4:
>Eila was just a kid when she was drafted to the war, of course she'd feel a little lost about the whole thing.

...hey, that's exactly the kind of stuff that makes you look like an obsessive fanboy. Claiming stuff that's in direct contradiction with Eila's internal monologue and exaggerating/generalizing that view to the utmost.

Originally, she wasn't. But that's how the anime turned out, and most of the merchandise related to the anime also, obviously, features this "hetare" Eila.

That's what I'm hoping for. Everything about her that isn't related to Sanya is damn awesome, and judging by the Double Fighter Knight dumps on SW threads over the years her archetype was as well. It's not like I dislike seeing Eila with Sanya or anything, but they took the hetare gag way too far to the point where they let it consume nearly her entire character. That's not funny anymore, it's just sad. Eila already has a criminally small amount of dialogue and scenes (where she isn't just a figure in the background) in the anime and especially the movie, when you make 95% of them about Sanya obsession it does hurt her character. She has barely any opportunities to show off why she's a super-ace (the #1 non-Karlsland ace) and her interactions with the rest of the squadron are.. shall we say, limited?

I'm personally waiting for it to be serialized separately when Nyantype finishes its run, if that happens. Otherwise at that point I'll go digging through second-hand sites and gather all the issues together. I'd hope it's scanned by then, but if not I'll do what I must.

Well, eventually it should be published by Seven Seas. It'll take forever, but hey, anticipation heightens pleasure.

It's not that I'm 100% against scanlations, just that I strongly prefer reading manga on paper in a physically printed copy.

Really the thing keeping it from becoming popular is the total lack of scans. It's hard to care about something when you can't read it.

I guess if we found a Chinese speaker, we could work from those Chinese scanlations that have been posted as "raws".

Excellent.

Yuri Project should focus on this instead of 1937 Fuso Sea Incident, since that actually has an official English release solicited. It's probably more yuri, too.

I don't know where should I put this...I saw some Aurora's pic in this thread. So I'll put here.

Not completely translated.I have no idea how to write "ビヤスター" in English.
I need help about this problem.
>> No. 7054 ID: 4151fb
>>7051
I think "ビヤスター" is "Beerster" (Real Brewster pilots also thought they looked like beer bottles, so the name fits)

Some other things:
"Finland Air Force" should be "Finnish Air Force"
"Rihikallio" should be "Riihikallio"
"Antia" should be "Anita" - I know アンティア is antia, but I think it was supposed to be アニタ. (Anita is a finnish name, Antia is not.)
"ware" should be "were"

PS. I'm a fan of your SW charts, thanks for your fine work. Feel free to ask here if you need any help.

I like that idea.
That's interesting, and most Likely :)

I was googled and found "Finnish female name list",
there have "Antia"(アンティア) on it...
ttp://www.worldsys.org/europe/finnish-female-names/
So i think Antia is not wrong...maybe.

For definite proof on that, here is a link to the Finnish Population Register Centre's name service:

You can try the First Name Search to search for "Anita" and "Antia".

Kimi to no Kizuna no Katachi and Sengoku Witches Honnoji no Maho are the only things that are missing and have decent typesetting. The first is at the request of the translator, and the second I think I have at home. Besides, if someone was that desperate for witches, the paste has everything.

Update on that:
>Alright my friends, first of all I'd like to apologize for all the time it took to complete everything. I never thought debinding and scanning something correctly would be so hard/tiresome. Then next there's the cropping/rotating/redrawing/leveling phase which took most of the time (I didn't add any topaz/denoise because honestly I don't know how to use it well). I exported most of the files to PNG, but no idea if everything's ok. Finally, I had to finish a document/presentation for my master's degree, causing me to drop everything for a while. But anyway, it's here, the first volume of Aurora (chapters 0-6), uncensored and (almost) good enough to be used for the translations. I'll dump later the ones for chapters 4 and 5 with those raws. I can finally go back to work on translating chapters 6-9, so they should come out soon.
